WE HAVE GREAT, GREAT NEWS! BIG
BAND
ALUMNI What a
wonderful experience this will be
for the Big Band fans, and especially for those who
love Big Powerful
Bands! After thinking we had exhausted our
possibilities with one of
our most favorite styles of music, a customer named
Robert McLaughlin,
from a remote corner of the Maine coastline, called
and said, "If
you've been thinking there aren't any great bands
around today, you
apparently haven't heard the terrific BIG BAND ALUMNI.
It is made up of
former players, and graduates of some of the most
famous Big Bands of
all time; Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Glenn
Miller,
Harry James, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Count
Basie, Billy
May and many more. Thus, was born the BIG BAND ALUMNI.
Though retired,
they gathered together in LA to produce some
remarkably powerful
recordings. I'll send you one from my collection. See
what you think.
Best Regards. Richard." Well, we were totally, I mean,
absolutely blown
away with the caliber and versatility of this band,
and why not. They
are, after all, the very musicians who made - the
music, played the
dates, and recorded on some of the worlds most famous
Big Band Era
recordings. We were immediately reminded of the same
sort of excitement
we felt when we first heard our Spitfire, Tony
Corbiscello,
Herbolzheimer demos and realized what we had. This band is so
truly remarkable in every
way, we knew we would love to present it to our
customers, media and
friends. The difficulty in properly promoting today is
a well known,
and unfortunate fact. We are all saddened by the loss
of the broad and
wonderful appeal that radio once provided. Today, "High School
Musicals" are hot
tickets. College, Broadway styled productions are
terrific and so well
received that they are doing
their own "cast" recordings. BYU's 'Broadway Rhythm'
is a knockout.
Broadway itself is experiencing big business in
'revivals', what
else-which contain some of our greatest standards of
all time. Plus, dancing is a major
feature in all
these productions, and the phenomenon of world wide
interest in dancing
is growing enormously. Now, with all
this good news, comes great
news of our own, from the town of Machias Me., not one
of the top jazz
scenes in the U.S. We, who thought we knew our
business pretty well,
were made aware of one of the greatest Big Bands we
had ever heard.
Ever! Thanks again to Richard, who the last time we
spoke with was
shoveling a 17 inch snowfall from his roof. This man
really knows what
he likes, and he sincerely loves Big Bands, and of
course, he surely
must love the beauty and serenity of 17 inch Maine
snowfalls. The fact
is, there is no greater sound on this planet than
the sound of
instrumental brilliance made by a fine Big Band in
high gear. It is
just the ultimate! And the ultimate of TODAY is the
superlative BIG
BAND ALUMNI, and should be recognized, heard, and
applauded for
masterfully carrying forward the Big Band Banner so
magnificently!
Cheer them heartily for keeping the National
Treasure of Big Band Music
Alive! |
